Campus Computer Lab helps Scout Leaders get Training

See the pictures

When Cub Scout adult leaders from Broken Arrow’s Pack 900 were in need of on-line training, they turned to Tulsa Community College’s Southeast Campus for help. Twin Arrows District offers a wide variety of required leadership training, but some of the training is only found on-line. Some of the scout leaders of Pack 900 where having trouble getting that on-line training. Pack Trainer, Tony O’Connor says, “We kept hearing about how the leaders couldn’t make time or didn’t have a good computer.” O'Connor, who is also an assistant professor at TCC, came up with a practical solution; use the campus computer lab at TCC. On Monday night, March 30th, 2009, the leaders met at the computer lab for their monthly leaders' meeting and received on-line training on topics such as: Fast Start Leader Orientation, Youth Protection, Hazardous Weather, and Safety Swim Defense. The high speed internet and capabilities of the computer lab offered an excellent and easy learning atmosphere. The project was a great success and the leaders had a lot of fun. So the next time you're having trouble getting your leadership team to get their on-line training, look no further than your nearest campus computer lab!

On July 7th Troop 935 presented the 13 Folds and Flag Retirements through out the day to the Patriot Guard Riders at their 2nd Annual National Gathering of the Guard.

There were approximately 200 members of the Guard from around the mainland states attending. Many of which took part throughout the day in the ceremonies. Many are veterans of foreign wars, past & present. Some still serving in the military today and just recently home from Iraq or Afghanistan. There were many appreciations heard throughout the day and afterward about how the boys handled the ceremonies and attended the flags with respect & honor. Many eyes were noticed with a tear or two during the retirement ceremony as each member of the Patriot Guard Riders said good bye to their National symbol.

The Wolf Den from Pack 933 visits Bass Pro Shop

See the pictures

Acheivement 4F for the Wolf Badge requires: Visit an important place in your community, such as a historic or government location. Explain why it is important.

They chose to visit Bass Pro Shop and the reason it is an important place to Broken Arrow is for the economic impact: taxes to pay for schools, roads, playgrounds and additional jobs. We noted the new road it is on and the businesses that have opened around it since it opened.

We chose to do a scavenger hunt as a group. See the List of things we looked for and the pictures. We took about an hour to complete the search and the boys all had a great time.

We would highly recommend this park to other packs. As you can tell, we had a blast.
